On a diet for arthritis, the Danish experiment

osteoarthritisAn easy four-month meal plan to relieve arthritis symptoms by acting on weight: this is the hypothesis of the experts for patients suffering from arthritis who have a few extra pounds. In this case, a decrease in weight would coincide with a reduction in arthritis pain by about thirty percent , particularly for those with knee osteoarthritis. In short, a very logical intuition, given that clearly supporting a lighter weight is to the advantage of those who have arthritis problems: in fact, obesity is one of the pathologies most correlated to the problem of osteoarthritis, precisely because it aggravates the symptoms.
The solution? The diet. At  the Parker Arthritis Institute at Copenhagen’s Frederiksberg Hospital, the doctors decided to put all their arthritis patients on a diet with a simple three / four month diet, with the result that those who lost weight then had fewer problems in daily life. What I appreciate little about the news is the weight loss method:

slimming products and shakes given to patients for rapid weight loss that relieved the pains of arthritis. A diet with a range of 415 calories (yes, starvation) to 1500 calories for the most obese patients, based solely on calorie restriction, and leading to massive weight loss in the first three months, and more planned over the years . In short: a constant weight loss monitored by doctors to alleviate the symptoms of arthritis of overweight patients but also to reduce health costs. In fact, the diet would make the life of patients suffering from osteoarthritis more acceptable without resorting to surgery (which often is not decisive).
