Very good news arrives in these minutes from the GDC . In fact , Oculus today presented its new viewer for virtual reality. The new Oculus Rift S , this is the product name, combines Oculus Insight tracking technology with the full power of their PC and gives gamers access to the most immersive content that VR has to offer. This new headset will make its debut this spring and will sell for an introductory price of 449 euros.

Oculus Rift S, replaces its predecessor, by inserting a high resolution display, improved optics and a function called Passthrough + , which allows you to have a perception of the real world that surrounds the player, without having to remove the viewer. Improved optics and display technology deliver a sharper image with higher pixel density for an even more immersive gaming experience.
In addition, thanks to a collaboration with Lenovo, Oculus has given its headset greater comfort, better weight distribution and better isolation from light.while also featuring a simple single-cable system that guarantees the player a clutter-free experience. Rift S features the same integrated audio solution already used in Oculus Quest and Oculus Go and features a jack that allows the user to use their favorite headphones.

Just like Quest, the Rift S features Oculus Insight, state-of-the-art inside-out tracking technology . Using computer vision algorithms, Oculus Insight captures, tracks and traverses physical spaces in real time. Rift S headsets are equipped with five sensors to maximize tracking volume to support the existing Rift library, while Oculus Touch controllers, redesigned for inside-out-tracking, allow you to sense the presence of your hands so you can grasp , point and perform gestures through the best of VR.

Passtrough + , a stereo-correct passthrough audio mode, has also been enabled in this headset. It uses major Oculus runtime updates, including ASW, to produce a quality experience with minimal depth disparity and without impacting performance. It is especially useful whenever you need to step or see outside your play space.
