Mediterranean diet, seven good rules
As you often hear me stressed, we Italians are the first to miss out on the advantages of the Mediterranean diet because we don’t know how to do it correctly . While abroad they continue to emphasize how important the Mediterranean diet is to fight obesity, and that compared to many other diets , the Mediterranean is the most effective , we, who are sure to do it since we live in the country that gave birth on this diet, we actually deviate from it dramatically. The ideal Mediterranean diet standard at the moment is the Greek one , due to the extensive use of cereals other than white bread and pasta which are instead present on our tables daily.
And you? To find out if you are following the Mediterranean diet and reaping all the benefits for your health, here are seven rules you should follow , which are also important if you want to lose weight.
THE SEVEN GOOD RULES OF THE MEDITERRANEAN DIET
1) Use olive oil and other quality cold pressed vegetable oils instead of butter, lard, low quality vegetable oils.
2) Eat fruit and vegetables several times a day and include a portion a day of unrefined cereals (i.e. wholemeal pasta, wholemeal bread, brown rice, oats, spelled, rye, wheat, barley, but also pseudocereals such as quinoa, amaranth, millet , buckwheat, etc.) or legumes.
4) Eat fish, poultry and eggs two to four times a week.
5) Eat low-fat dairy products such as skim milk or yogurt every day. lean ricotta, stracchino, robiola, but also parmesan.
6) Use aromatic herbs, garlic, spices every day to reduce salt consumption.
7) Include half a glass of red (or still white) wine per day.
As you can see, in point two no one wrote: bread, rice, pasta and pizza with refined flours. And there is no mention of sweets, since in the Mediterranean diet they are consumed once a week. Now that you know, can you tell them to follow her?
