Low sugar, symptoms and how to avoid it
One of the most common mistakes when you go on a diet is to drastically reduce the consumption of carbohydrates, even simple ones, not to mention that our body needs glucose. And that the best way to maintain good health is to optimize carbohydrate metabolism.
The consequence of this cutting of carbohydrates is the so-called ” sugar drop “.
This condition of lowering blood sugar during the day, which then rises dangerously after meals, can however also be linked to an unbalanced intake of macronutrients during meals.
Or long hours of no food between meals.
LOW IN SUGAR SYMPTOMS AND DEFINITION
Low sugar is a condition known as reactive hypoglycemia , which can have many causes. We usually talk about reactive hypoglycemia when blood sugar drops to levels of 70 mg / dl. The primary condition is often diabetes, but non-diabetic people can also have these problems.
When we have too high a rise in insulin, hypoglycemia occurs due to a reaction to the action of this hormone. But the same thing happens : if we eat too little at too long intervals, if we drastically reduce carbohydrates in favor of too much protein in meals, if we train on an empty stomach, if we drink alcohol, if we do heavy drug therapies, often antibiotics, if we abuse substances such as supplements that lower blood sugar.
Other problems that can cause a drop in sugar are: liver problems, adrenal problems (high or too low cortisol), treatments for kidney problems, enzyme deficiencies that cause malabsorption in the intestine.
The symptoms that should make us suspect a drop in sugar are: excessive and sudden sweating, a sense of hunger, dizziness, loss of energy, exhaustion, aggression, loss of consciousness, up to convulsions. Severe cases of hypoglycemia are fatal.
There are obviously other ailments that give similar symptoms: loss of mineral salts due to excessive hydration or drops in pressure give similar symptoms, for example.
On page two we see how to solve the episodes of low sugar by acting on the diet.
