Liquid diet, why NEVER do it
I am inspired by this very interesting article published on the English website So Feminine , which lists the reasons why we must never give in to the fashion of the liquid-only detox diet, which for some years has also landed in Italy thanks to some companies, including Baba . What is the Liquid Solids Detox Diet? It can be called juicing (diet based on centrifuged only) or liquid diet (diet based on centrifuged, vegetable puree, and other liquids such as tea, herbal teas, juices, smoothies or smoothies), but the substance does not change: for a period ranging from one to three days to five days, you drink (healthy) and that’s it. You drink soups, at best. Without bits of stuff inside. I have thought so for a long time that juicing was a dangerous fashion. It is the best way not to purify and detoxify, as the promoters of these diets say, but to gamble your metabolism. Because after losing a few pounds, not only do you gain weight, but there are interests. For the next few weeks, we will tend to put on weight.
Let’s see what reasons So Feminine lists why the liquid diet is to be mercilessly banned.
1) Because it can go against the needs of our body:it’s easy. If you are hungry you have to eat, if you are not hungry you can even skip the meal. But if you are hungry and instead of eating you drink juice or soup, not only will you feel hungry after half an hour, but you will cause enormous stress to your body. And always remember: more stress = more flab.
2) Because it has side effects: headache, chills, bad mood, irritability, intestinal colic, stomach pains. These are just some of the pleasant side effects of a diet that will last over the following days: abdominal swelling and heaviness when you go back to eating, tendency to gain weight at the first bite. The liquid diet can be a real shock to our body.
3) They are drastic and low-calorie.At this point, any three-day lightning diet could do the exact same job, perhaps with less stress. Bring in few calories, drink a lot, and weight loss is guaranteed. But it does not last long and the resulting nutritional deficit weakens us. You will say: but who cares if it is weak, the important thing is to lose weight. Right? Wrong. Whenever we get weak, our metabolism slows down.
4) It is not detox, in the sense that it does not detoxify:detox diets assume that we all have a compromised liver and are unable to naturally dispose of the toxins in our body. Let’s say we eat radioactive chicken and liquid plumber shake every day and do it for a year. Can a detox of a few days ever cleanse us of past excesses? Most importantly, the big drawback of the liquid detox diet is that it has no fiber. Fiber helps the body detoxify itself by getting rid of waste substances.
5) All at an excessive price:as I said in another article, having a detox diet for 3 or 5 days means spending the equivalent of a weekend trip, to stay at home with the spasms of intestinal colic and then find yourself gaining weight at the first bite of food solid. Are you really that masochistic?
