Is eating too little salt good for the heart? I study
Is eating too little salt in your diet good for the heart and prevents cardiovascular disease?
An important meta-analysis released in recent days says that the association between salt consumption and cardiovascular disease has not been proven.
Indeed, the problem would be the lack of data presented in all the studies analyzed.
The study, by the University of Oxford , in fact analyzed 9 unique studies that linked salt consumption to cardiovascular health, for a total of almost 500 patients involved over the years.
Despite the fact that 26 million people have had a heart attack worldwide, according to the study, the correlation between eating low salt and heart health benefits is not scientifically demonstrable according to the data collected in recent years.
None of the 9 studies analyzed reported sufficient data to establish a certain correlation . None of the studies included more than 100 participants, two studies found that patients with cardiovascular problems benefited from eating little salt in their diet, while two studies found that there was no improvement.
The risk of a bias, that is of a prejudice of the researchers with respect to the evidence of the collected data, and therefore of an interpretation of the results, was variable. Thus leaving a nice question mark on the validity of the results.
