Is activating beige fat the secret to losing weight?
According to when Professor Pier Luigi Rossi (undoubtedly one of the most competent dieticians we have in Italy)  explained, in addition to the brown fat I mentioned here (i.e. the fat responsible for thermogenesis, which allows us to maintain a stable body temperature and which appears to be greater in thin people and less in overweight people due to the presence of the extra white fat that protects them), there is a third type of fat in our body, beige fat or brite adipose tissue.Â
Do you remember when I told you that it is possible to convert white fat to brown? Well, this process has a kind of intermediate stage, which is the beige fat.
On the contrary, we gain weight for a mechanism that I simplify here:
– we eat too much and badly: our microbiota changes by increasing bad bacteria (our intestinal flora, commonly called), and some receptors ( according to this discovery ) are “activated” as immune system response . And what does it do? It pushes the conversion of brown fat to white. And we get fat.
Obviously, since everything passes from what happens in our intestine, when our microbiota is healthy, that state of inflammation that pushes the body to accumulate fat is no longer created. On the contrary, two fundamental hormones (which are also responsible for our sense of satiety), lipatin and insulin, play a key role in the weight loss process: white cells tend to convert to beige and then brown, something that is defined ” the browning of wat “.
Therefore: our flab can be thrown down favoring the passage from white to beige to brown fat.
You will say: yes, but it is always fat. Not exactly. Brown fat basically raises our metabolism. The more brown fat we have, the more calories we burn, the leaner we are. How to favor the intermediate step, allowing us a greater formation of beige fat?
According to Pier Luigi Rossi, whom I quote, the things to do to lose weight would be these ( I quote him, you can find all his speech here ):
1 – stimulate the production of the hormone irisina through aerobic and resistance motor activity
2 – reduce the food intake of arachinodic acid and omega 6 (foods of animal origin, seed oils…). A dietary excess of omega 6 and arachidonic acid limits, in fact, the presence of beige adipocytes.
3 – On the contrary, it is necessary to introduce an adequate dose of retinoic acid through vegetable foods of a yellow to red color ; better if cooked, because cooking promotes intestinal absorption of carotenoids.
4 – Living in the open air, in the sun, allows you to obtain two precious effects: increasing the vitamin D inside the adipocytes and activating thermogenesis to counteract the cold climate, staying outside the heated rooms. The radiator, for example, contributes to obesity because it does not “burn” fat to maintain the right body temperature.
