Irritable colon, the advice of the gastroenterologist

How should people with irritable colon behave at the table? I have already talked about it in the past, making a distinction from the “emergency” diet for those who have an irritable bowel attack (I’ll talk about it here), and the diet that in the long term can help us relieve symptoms and reduce the problem up to (hopefully) to his final demise.
On this we see the advice of the famous gastroenterologist Robin Chutkan , who explains how to relieve the symptoms of irritable bowel with strategies that work in the long term to eliminate the problem once and for all.

IRRITABLE COLON: THE ADVICE OF THE GASTROENTEROLOGIST
1) Eliminate what triggers your symptoms: irritable colon can be of two types: with frequent constipation or colic. For those suffering from irritable bowel accompanied by constipation, a lack of fiber in the diet is one of the problems that cause symptoms. We need to cut down on foods with a high glycemic index, sugar-rich and refined foods and eating whole foods “little by little” or consuming fruit and vegetables more frequently is a way to gradually switch from the wrong diet to the healthy one. For those suffering from irritable colon accompanied by colic, the advice is to eliminate milk and dairy products for two weeks. Seventy percent of people suffering from this disorder lack the lactase enzyme.

2) Eat something for breakfast that helps: For constipated people, this can be a little oat, for example in the form of muffins or pancakes or a couple of oatmeal cookies. For people suffering from colic associated with irritable bowel, an apple peeled and cooked in a teaspoon of coconut oil until very soft, then sprinkled with cinnamon.
3) Use symbiotic products, not probiotics: symbiotic products are a combination of prebiotic and probiotic substances together, that is, they are functional products for our gastrointestinal health. For example sourdough bread, yogurt with a teaspoon of honey or pieces of cooked fruit, sauerkraut, miso soup, fermented cheeses or kefir.
