Instant oats, great for smoothies!
What is instant oats, how can you consume them and how does it differ from classic oat flakes or wholemeal oats? What about oat bran? Instant oats are nothing more than oat flour , often subjected to decortication (so it is a different product from oat bran) and pre-cooked. Being flour, it is easier to use it in the kitchen, for example to make cakes and pancakes, and it is useful for all those who want to replace it (in part or completely) with traditional preparations with normal wheat flour, because unlike flakes of oats, which are pulped only by cooking them as in porridge, there is no division into grains, which makes cooking in the oven or in a pan, for example, difficult.
But just like with flakes, it can also be used in savory preparations: for example, to enrich a vegetable cream or soup with a small amount of carbohydrates, just add it ten minutes before finishing cooking. But also a spoonful of ricotta and vegetable pies, to make the mixture thicker.
That said, instant oats are perfect for making smoothies that can serve as a single meal. Here are two fabulous recipes: one for a breakfast smoothie and one for lunch.
