Im2Calories, the app that calculates the calories of food from photos
The Im2Calories application is coming soon, which will be able to count the calories of our dishes (and the rest of their nutritional values), simply from the photos that we will take on facebook: if the fashion of culinary selfies is already spreading, with hundreds of people who every day they report what they are eating, soon it will be possible to count the calories of all the recipes posted in the photos. A great idea, even if I have doubts about its real accuracy: according to Google,  Im2Calories will be based on an algorithm capable of calculating the calories of our dish by “photographing” the ingredientsand by measuring the volume of the food, thus getting an idea of its quantity. So in theory he should be able to tell the difference between a plate of lasagna and a pan of lasagna. Undoubtedly a funny and curious idea, even if so far the tool that has managed to calculate exactly the nutritional values of a dish is a food scanner developed by a researcher , (Tellspec), which however works live, and not with the food in the picture. Will Im2Calories be effective in its calorie count? Whatever the answer, we wait for it to come to us too, and then everyone to take what we have on our plate!
