I eat right but I have high cholesterol: what am I wrong?

I am 55 years old and have been slightly overweight since I went through menopause 5 years ago. I have been a vegetarian for 2 years and a vegan for about 8 months ; I did the blood tests after about 2 years that I did not do it, just to do a check and to my great sorrow and amazement I discovered that I have very high cholesterol values. cholesterol 274, ldl 161, hdl 57, triglycerides 279. Now since I think I eat well, lots of vegetables, whole grains, fruit, legumesand dried fruit, I do not take anything of animal origin I wonder how it is possible. Incidentally, I’m fine, I don’t take any drugs, my blood pressure is fine, I don’t drink and I don’t smoke. instead I am always very stressed by the hard work of managing a family of 6 people, 2 of which are very old and disabled. Could I have an opinion and advice on what to possibly change or limit in my diet? Thank you, Cristiana Basso

Hi Cristiana, at your age it is not only the correct diet that comes into play, but causes or contributing causes, one could be endogenous, that is, you are geneticam predisposed to produce more cholesterol regardless, the other is hormonal imbalance. we at Dna have many natural remedies available … omega 3 – the lipo-block. I invite you to call Teresa at 3493989559.

Good evening Christian I understand your amazement, because high cholesterol is often attributed to the consumption of fat in the diet. While this may also be true, my opinion is a little different. The cause is also to be found elsewhere, such as in stress, overweight and carbohydrate metabolism. It is essential to do physical activity to dispose of the adipose tissue, especially the abdominal one, which is rich in nerve fibers which leads to more appetite. The daily intake of carbohydrates must not exceed 55% of the daily Kcal, even if of the integral type. I suggest you continue with the diet you are already following, making small attentions: – drink before meals, not during or you can drink 3 hours after the meal – eat raw, salad or raw vegetables, at least 15 minutes before eating anything else – between meals eat 1 fruit – drink natural mineral water You walk for at least half an hour a day in nature, trying to relax your mind, focusing on your breath and on the steps you take. I wish you to find a solution, small changes make big things.

Dear Cristiana, the answer is actually given by itself! She says she is very stressed and stress is capable of raising cholesterol to stellar levels, negating the beneficial effects of a healthy diet. Plus, menopause doesn’t help. The speech would be a bit long but if you have the opportunity to contact me I will explain what are the behaviors that can help you to lower your cholesterol. Or contact a good naturopath in your area. Best regards Cinzia Zedda naturopath
