How to send documents and files with WhatsApp: quick guide

How to send documents with WhatsAppAn interesting novelty has arrived for WhatsApp in its latest version. It had been talked about, the news was in the air. We’ve been waiting a long time but finally, here’s the new feature. From now on WhatsApp allows you to send Pdf, Word, Power Point and Excel documents , as well as images and videos. As with emails, you can also send attachments of your choice on WhatsApp.

Sending files is currently available for iPhone and Android , while for WhatsApp Web, Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile you will have to wait a few more weeks.

Furthermore, the sending of documents is currently limited to .pdf only. But it is only a matter of a few days. As soon as the final version is available, we will also update this page.

But the surprises don’t stop there. With the latest update, WhatsApp has also introduced two other new features:

  • the ability to see the blue double ticks without opening the message .
  • share files (photos, videos, pdfs, etc.) also from iCloud Drive or other storage services such as Dropbox and Google Drive (this function is currently limited only to the iOS operating system of the iPhone but, as for the file types , it’s just a matter of a few days).

How to send a document on WhatsApp?

Sending a file or document (.pdf, .doc, .ppt, .pdf, .xls) is really simple:

First you need to update WhatsApp , by installing the latest version of the application.

Then:

On iPhone , after opening a conversation click on the arrow symbol at the bottom right. Then select Share Document.

On Android , click on the attachment command (the arrow at the top right) and select the item to share documents.

NB . To send documents via WhatsApp to your contact, he must also have downloaded the updated version of the application.

NB2. Even for groups, if you want to share a document or file, all participants must have updated WhatsApp to the latest version available.

To view the files we have sent to a particular contact, simply go to the contact information (by clicking on the chat name) and open the Media, Links and Documents (or Files) folder.

Block automatic download of documents on WhatsApp

As for images and videos, documents are automatically saved both on WhatsApp and on our phone. However, this double saving has a drawback: it takes up memory on your mobile.

To prevent WhatsApp from automatically downloading documents:

On iPhone, go to Settings -> Data usage and disable the “Documents” item.

On Android, go to Settings -> Chat Settings , and turn off automatic download.
