Here comes the PEGAN diet (Paleo + vegan)
Two food approaches that seemed impossible to reconcile, namely the Paleo or Paleodieta diet (yes to products of animal origin, no to dairy products and cheeses, no to industrial products, no to cereals and legumes) and the vegan diet (no to any products of origin animal, not even honey) have teamed up to form a new diet that will appeal to everyone (apart from vegans): those looking for a new way to eat, healthier and cleaner, and those who want a balanced diet. The Pegan Diet.
According to dietician Susie Burrell to the Daily Mail Australia, the Pegan diet includes some principles of the paleo diet, but expands the diet to contain gluten-free whole grains and generally higher fiber content., taking into account that fibers allow us to better digest animal proteins and minimize their negative effects. In fact, it is known that the Paleo diet is all too generous in its portions of meat and fish: taking into account that dairy products and cheeses are excluded, the Paleo diet involves such massive consumption of meat that, according to a recent article, if we did it for hundreds of years we would have become cannibals and not just carnivores. The Pegan with its compromise of a base of cereals and fibers, reduces the carnivorous drift of the Paleo
An example of a Pegan diet?
Breakfast with banana pancakes and a glass of coconut milk.
Fruit and nut based snacks
Lunch with quinoa salad and vegetable side dish.
Dinner with meat or fish plus vegetables.
And let’s move on to the big question you all ask yourselves. Will such a regimen make you lose weight? Most likely yes, even if I don’t like deprivation diets and I find the war on gluten useless, the Pegan diet is suitable for those who are lactose intolerant and show a sensitivity to gluten products.(which manifests itself for example with swelling after a plate of pasta), and could be followed as a “clean diet” that is a detoxifying diet for a month. It is in fact quite similar to the Whole 30 diet and would allow you to lose several kilos because it forces those who follow it to eat healthy, avoiding any packaged or sweet product.
