Green Mediterranean diet: the best for the heart

Green Mediterranean diet: the best for the heart

A Mediterranean Green Diet, called Med Green Diet, would be the diet with greater benefits both for having a healthy weight and for having a healthy heart compared to the traditional Mediterranean diet. And it would be especially good for men with cardiovascular and metabolic problems.
This is according to a study published in the scientific journal Heart.
But what does the Mediterranean Green diet consist of? Let’s try to understand the differences of this diet compared to the classic Mediterranean diet.

THE VARIATIONS OF THE MEDITERRANEAN DIET ACCORDING TO SCIENCE

The Mediterranean diet has recently been the subject of new studies, which, by adopting changes to the famous food pyramid, have seen further advantages over the traditional diet.

There was already a precedent with the keto-Mediterranean diet, a low-carbohydrate diet that focuses on foods typical of the Mediterranean basin, and which would make you lose more weight ( here the diet ).

Then again on Dcomedieta we talked about the MD Mediterranean Diet , with a greater intake of calcium and vitamin D, which leads to greater loss of body fat.

Now it is the turn of the Mediterranean Green diet, which, as the name implies, is instead focused on a greater consumption of vegetables also for protein sources. So not only more vegetables, but also more vegetable proteins.

GREEN MEDITERRANEAN DIET: THE MENU

The Green Mediterranean diet provides for the exclusion of all red meats, replaced by white ones.
Each day we consume 28 gr. of walnuts, the only condiment is olive oil for added fats and added sugars are excluded. Another difference is in the consumption of green tea: the diet includes at least three cups of green tea a day.

But the most curious difference is that one hundred grams per day of duckweed protein (Wolffia Globosa Mankai) is consumed instead of red meat, a protein preparation that reduces blood sugar and provides vitamin B12.

Vegans in America are talking about it a lot, but I haven’t written about this oriental superfood yet, because it can’t be found in Italy. Anyone who wants can buy it here.

In 6 months, the diet caused obese participants to lose nearly 6 and a half kilos, compared to the traditional Mediterranean, where a second group lost 5 kilos, and to generic healthier diet indications, where a third group lost one and a half kilograms. .

Men consumed from 1400 to 1800 calories per day, women from 1200 to 1400 calories, except in the third group, where a calorie requirement was not indicated.

The most substantial difference, however, was seen in the reduction of the waist.
With the Mediterranean Green diet, people lost 8.6 cm in waist circumference.

Keep in mind that typically 6 kilos of weight loss usually corresponds to a 5 cm reduction in the waistline.

It also improves cardiovascular parameters, starting with less bad cholesterol and lowering blood pressure.
