Greek yogurt, 6 ways to use it
More than salmon or quinoa, Greek yogurt is becoming the new must-have of our pantries: that indispensable item when we go shopping, because it is yogurt, because it has a pasty consistency, because it is good for health and because it is more digestible than traditional yogurt as it naturally has less lactose. In short, all very good reasons to try it, right?
Yes, OK. But it’s yogurt. And yogurt also has another interesting feature: while being versatile in the kitchen, it cooks up early.
Here are 6 more reasons to buy Greek yogurt and use it creatively but also practically.
6 WAYS TO USE GREEK YOGURT:
1) For a face mask : lactic acid is a natural exfoliant. After cleansing your face, let’s enjoy a quick, homemade mask with Greek yogurt and a hint of honey. Ten minutes and voila: more compact, clean and radiant skin.
2) For a quick sauce: we can use it as a dip to accompany raw vegetables instead of pinzimonio or for corn tortillas or slices of flatbread. We mix some Greek yogurt with a nice mixture of fresh and dried herbs to taste (chives, basil, parsley), a few olives or two dried tomatoes, capers, spices, salt. We whirl in a mixer and that’s it. If we want we can make several and put them in different cups. And of course also tzatziki, the famous Greek sauce, includes Greek yogurt
4) Instead of mayonnaise: a veil of Greek yogurt is perfect instead of mayonnaise (of all) to flavor sandwiches with cold cuts, perhaps mixed with a hint of mustard. It can partially replace mayonnaise in some cold preparations, such as stuffed eggs or for the shrimp cocktail sauce.
5) To lighten the guacamole: the guacamole sauce can be lightened with fat-free Greek yogurt, blended with half an avocado. Same thing for hummus, the traditional chickpea-based cream.
6) To halve the butter:in cakes and even in shortcrust pastry, halve the butter (which is butter and not margarine) by putting some whole Greek yogurt in its place. Make sure it is whole though.
And last but not least , Greek yogurt is a great base for an ice cream without an ice cream maker. Just put it in the freezer for an hour along with pieces of fruit (for example banana). Then put the fruit and yogurt in the mixer and customize with a spoonful of hazelnut cream.
A delicious snack? Try this simple fruit cream. Blend the Greek yogurt with berries and honey or, second paired, with a ripe pear and a teaspoon of peanut butter.
