FACEBOOK AND WHATSAPP: THEIR USE INCREASED BY MORE THAN 50%

Facebook and WhatsApp, the two most used messaging apps by us Italians, have seen their use increase over 50%.

In this period of forced quarantine in which we are all committed to staying inside our homes, in addition to video services such as Netflix, Disney +  and Amazon Prime Video which have undergone a notable increase in “ratings”, messaging apps have also seen a not indifferent data traffic boom. On the other hand, having to stay away from each other, the only way to stay closer is precisely that of chats or phone calls. Facebook and WhatsApp, in this, are certainly the two services most used by all Italians and beyond.

Through a post released on the official blog, Facebook has released its numbers relating to the increase in the use of the app in these days of quarantine. Many of the countries affected by the epidemic, in fact, have reported an increase of more than 50% in the last month alone. WhatsApp, on the other hand, has seen the number of video calls and voice calls double. These are the data of our beautiful country:

  • Up to 70% increase in time spent on the Facebook platform since the outbreak began;
  • The number of Instagram and Facebook live views doubled in just one week;
  • The use of messaging services and the average time of calls made through them increased by 50%, especially group calls (consisting of at least 3 people) which increased by over 1000%.

Stories, used on both platforms, have also increased considerably in the last month. On the other hand, the revenue generated by advertising decreased although the accesses increased.
