Easter egg to stay fit: which one to choose

We know that good chocolate is a real functional food. Rich in flavonoids and monounsaturated fatty acids, the same as olive oil and almonds, a piece of chocolate a day keeps the doctor away. The important thing is that it is extra-dark and with top quality materials. And preferably without lecithins or other emulsifiers.
Are we asking too much? NO. I assure you that Easter eggs that match this description exist.
So here’s how to choose an Easter egg to stay fit.

And since in these days before Easter we start shopping for chocolate eggs, here’s how we should choose our eggs with these simple tips both for us and for our families or for our children.

HOW TO CHOOSE AN EASTER EGG TO STAY IN SHAPE

  1. The Easter egg also has a list of ingredients

Hard to believe, but we choose Easter eggs with the list of ingredients on the tag or on the adhesive label, which is usually found at the base of the packaged egg. The ingredients that we can accept are obviously cocoa and cocoa butter. The third ingredient is sugar (exactly with this wording: sugar). The ingredients NO . Soy lecithin, other added sugars (glucose syrup, corn syrup), vegetable oil, artificial flavors. We choose eggs that have only cocoa, sugar, cocoa butter, milk (for milk chocolate) and walnuts and hazelnuts (for chocolate with nuts and hazelnuts). That’s 4-5 ingredients at the most. A minimal list.

  2. Preferences: the chocolate must be as dark as possible.

If we want to stay in line and think about health, it is better to choose a dark egg (60-75% cocoa) or even extra dark (75% and more). In second place the variant with almonds (not caramelized), pistachios or hazelnuts is ok. In third place is milk chocolate, ideal for people who are stressed and have difficulty digesting dark chocolate. Avoid white, double-layered chocolate, eggs with biscuits, cereals, various additions.

  3. Quality : in the Easter egg it counts a lot.

Better a smaller or artisanal egg with higher quality chocolate than a larger but poorer egg.

  4. Weight.

Light eggs, from 150 to 200 grams, are better than 300-gram or half-kilo eggs. During the party, in fact, we will happen to eat them even without realizing it, and therefore it is better to have eggs with the thinnest layer of chocolate in front of them.

  5. Do you make it at home or buy it in a pastry shop ?

Eggs made at home or bought in an artisan pastry shop are undoubtedly the first choice. It is unlikely that an artisan pastry can put too many ingredients, but in the limit the quantity of sugar will vary, especially if the egg is decorated. If we can’t (or don’t want to) do it at home, a small or medium-sized pastry egg will certainly be a healthier and more welcome gift than a supermarket egg.
