New application update finally available on Google Play . Android users can download the Material Design version of WhatsApp directly from the official App Store. Lots of news, starting with graphics.

This version we are talking about is 2.12.74 and was created to offer the user a more colorful and modern look, with all the particularities that characterize the Material Design. Without hiding behind false adulation, we must say that WhatsApp has really wasted a lot of time adapting the application to this new version, especially if we compare it with other instant messaging applications such as Telegram , already updated for some time. Even more so if we think that WhatsApp can take advantage of the support of an extraordinary machine like Facebook . On the other hand, however, the great work of the WhatsApp engineers, who have achieved an excellent result, cannot be diminished.

An important aspect to immediately underline is that this is a version that does not have the ability to make a backup copy on Google Drive , available instead in the previous update. The backup offers the possibility to save all those conversations and images that we have in our device and store them in the Google cloud and this allowed for greater security in case of data or information loss on our device. For the moment the function is no longer available, but who knows it will not be reintroduced in the coming weeks.

Another thing to note is that WhatsApp, after a period of “silence”, in recent months has shown a renewed desire to progress and implement very interesting new developments , such as the web version and voice calls . The latest addition in order of time is the adaptation to Material Design, now officially available on Google Play.

What changes with Material Design?

The new version of WhatsApp in Material Design introduces a new set of animations and changes to the application user interface.

The color scheme is dark green. The graphics are cleaner and allow for smoother use. There are many small animations that enrich the application without which the app could have been boring. The application features new icons, animations and emoticons that complement the voice call function.

After opening WhatsApp, you will notice that the application bar at the top integrates calls, chats and contacts, all in a single color and with the ability to scroll through the various items simply by dragging your finger from left to right (and vice versa ).

The conversations did not undergo significant changes. Note only the new key for voice messages at the bottom right, which allows you to delete a message just recorded with a swipe to the left, all accompanied by an animation that accompanies the function.

Another important novelty is the insertion of attachments (position, photo and video sharing, contact sending) completely redesigned.

In conclusion, WhatsApp in Material Design works well and is definitely better than the previous version . Now – but we know that it may take months – we just have to wait for the same update to arrive on the iPhone, iOS and other devices.
