Tartar dog

What is tartar

When plaque hardens on the teeth, tartar builds up . The margin of the gums can also be affected by this phenomenon which causes irritation of the tissues and over time can lead to more serious problems such as cavities .

Dog tartar: natural cures and remedies

Some dogs have an abnormal tendency to produce tartar . Sometimes it completely envelops the teeth like a real cement capsule under which permanent inflammation and gum infection are created that not only lead to pain in the mouth and tooth loss, but also debilitate the organism.

Germs can get into the blood and cause endocarditis and kidney infections .

To combat tartar it is important to take care of the diet, which should be natural and rich in calcium and vitamin C.

In order for the dog to maintain a healthy mouth it is important that the teeth are used properly, because chewing helps to improve blood circulation.

Therefore it is important to give the dog also food in pieces , which must be torn and chewed, and not just pates or soft morsels. There are natural remedies that can be given to the dog for the health of the teeth and gums:

  • Calendula : 30 drops diluted in half a glass of water sprinkled on the gums with a syringe without a needle. Calendula has anti- inflammatory properties that help cleanse tartar before and after surgery.
  • Propolis : on the mucous membrane of the mouth it has an antiseptic and repairing effect, but it burns a lot. Propolis should be diluted a lot with water and used on inflamed but not injured mucosa.

In case of reddened gums, a mouthwash prepared with the following Bach flowers is very useful :

  • Vervain for inflammation ,
  • Elm and Holly for the pain ,
  • Crab apple for infection ,
  • Agrimony for dental discomfort .

Bach flowers are diluted in the proportion of 1 drop of each every 10 ml of water and sprayed into the oral cavity 5 or 6 times a day. They will be swallowed by the dog.

Natural Tips

A useful practice involves the use of the toothbrush at least once a day. Unfortunately, it is not easy to get your dog used to having his teeth brushed, so it is good to start gradually, starting first by massaging teeth and gums with fingers wrapped in sterile gauze, then moving on to the toothbrush.

There are also toothpastes or pastes specially designed for cleaning dogs’ teeth . Under no circumstances should a human toothpaste be used, as if the dog ingests it it can cause serious stomach problems.
