Does the paleo diet work?

Does the paleo diet work?

A group of Swedish researchers allegedly demonstrated the efficacy of the Paleo diet , also known as the Cavemen diet, compared to other diets thanks to an experiment. In the experiment about seventy women followed different diets, divided into groups. Then we saw which group lost the most weight.

Women who followed the paleo diet would have lost twice as much weight as everyone else. The experts, commenting on the results, would claim that the paleo diet works compared to the high-fat protein diets .

With the paleo diet, in fact, all cereals except a little rice, all false cereals such as quinoa or buckwheat, all legumes, peanuts and dairy products are excluded.

We therefore eat meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruit, dried fruit and some tubers such as sweet potatoes. The idea behind it is to abandon a modern eating style to eat like a primitive man.

But does the paleo diet work for weight loss?

The paleo diet works when, as with all diets, the elimination of a number of foods results in a reduction in daily calories. In fact, all desserts are suddenly abandoned, all starchy foods such as pizza and bread, and therefore weight is lost as a result of this exclusion.

Today, however, the growing interest in the paleo diet has led to many substitution recipes to make the diet more modern. And many products on the market.
So you can buy paleo sweets, paleo pastas, paleo biscuits and paleo cheeses.

The result is that those who follow paleo today risk introducing more calories than the original principles of the diet, which instead focused on a simple eating style.
So it is easy to find people who have lost weight and many others who do not lose a pound.

In short, everything depends on how we diet.
In the study, the women ate a simple paleo diet, with no alternative products to make up for pasta, pizzas, and bread.

Anyone wishing to follow a paleo diet with the aim of losing weight should therefore stick to the original principles to imitate the results of the research.

For example, on Dcomedieta I published the menu of the paleo diet of Dr. Kresser, who is one of the main experts in Paleolithic nutrition: you can find it here .
