Does physical activity work for weight loss? The answer is not yes, but not even no. It is nì. Physical activity in itself does not make you lose weight , but the right physical activity triggers changes that in the long run lead the body to the loss of fat mass and to better health through better body composition: the mechanisms by which this occurs, however, have not been make sure you are clear. At the moment there are always a number of explanations for why physical activity is essential for weight loss:improves our hormonal balance (if we do not exaggerate, otherwise it worsens it), muscles burn more calories than flab (yes, but few more), the cardiovascular system improves, stress decreases, mitochondrial breathing is more efficient, sensitivity insulin increases etc. etc. Etc.
The basic problem, however, is another. You should not do physical activity to lose weight , but to have better health and a healthier body, and for this to happen about an hour and a half of weekly physical activity done in the right way would be enough., or aimed at maintaining or growing the muscle and its efficiency. If you don’t, your body weakens over time, your lean mass decreases with age, and you actually tend to get fat.
In a word? Weights, weights, weights.
But choosing physical activity with the purpose of losing weight , therefore burning more energy than we consume, is a concept that has recently shown to be short-sighted and does not take into account a series of variables that I summarize.
