Do you follow a paleo diet and don’t lose weight? Here are 5 reasons
In recent times, many people have tried the so-called paleodieta, a regime that despite having some excellent ideas (no industrial, refined foods, no artificial sugars) is in all respects a diet that is based on the elimination of certain categories of foods ( no to milk and derivatives, no to cereals and legumes) and on the theoretical foundations that were later refuted: it is not true that the Paleolithic man ate large quantities of meat, few vegetables and nothing else, as well as the observation of some primitive tribes by scholars such as Weston Price have by no means established that all rural tribes eat only animal protein and a lot of fat. There are, as Matt Stone wrote in his Diet Recovery, primitive and distant tribes from modern life that make and have high-carbohydrate diets, that is, whole grains and legumes. However, the Paleo fashion shows no sign of waning, and many people have lost weight thanks to this diet, which by eliminating cereals and legumes as well as all industrial products allows you to lose many kilos.
Still, there are people who are paleo diets and have gained weight, even putting on fat mass according to fitness instructors
DON’T LOSE WEIGHT WITH THE PALEODIET? HERE’S WHY
1) You don’t eat enough fruits, vegetables and tubers: the Paleo diet is not a common protein diet. It is a regimen that out of the diktat of some guru must be balanced and natural, not low carb. For this reason, those who follow the paleo diet must never lack tubers (sweet potatoes, Jerusalem artichokes) and starchy vegetables (carrots) to give the body that percentage of resistant starch ideal for better digesting animal proteins. Likewise, fruit in at least one or two portions and plenty of vegetables should never be missing.
2) You eat too many nuts, hazelnuts and seeds: many paleorecipes (especially sweets) abound in walnuts, hazelnuts and almond, walnut and hazelnut flours. This creates an imbalance of omega6 polyunsaturated fatty acids that even if you want to eat salmon all day you could not counterbalance with omega3. Result? Compromised hormones, lowered metabolism, a surplus of calories from too substantial snacks. Consumption must be limited.
3) You eat too many “paleo foods”:the paleo diet is becoming a business, just like in the case of gluten free. There are snacks and paleo industrial foods, which have very little genuine, and which not only would not be recognized by primitive man, but not even by our grandparents. Paleo cookies and bars, protein powders, dried meat and fruit: most paleo foods on the market are rich in nuts, seeds, vegetable oils, honey, salt. Real bombs.
4) Eat your fill of foods that are too high in calories:I’m sorry if you’re on a five or six thousand calorie diet, but the gym won’t save you. Calories don’t matter, okay, but up to a certain point, and it’s one thing to eat your fill, it’s another to indulge in over-calorie foods, like paleo pies made by blending avocado with coconut oil, cocoa and hazelnuts. Good and genuine, for heaven’s sake, but a slice is equivalent to a full meal.
5) You do not lead an active life : while primitive man made a bunch of tarallo for survival, he makes those who become orthorexic in the kitchen laugh a bit but don’t even get off the couch to pay for it. Up: a little self-criticism. It is useless to eat as a warrior if you then eat paleo sausages and onion omelettes while watching football on TV.
