Diets to Avoid: The HCG Diet
Following the request for clarification from a reader, I thought it would be useful to write an article about a dangerous diet but apparently still in vogue among people who want to lose many kilos in a very short time: I’m talking about the HCG diet or the HCG hormonal diet .
In short, after explaining what it is, I will explain the reasons why the HCG diet is a diet to avoid, and the effects it could have on your health.
First of all, let’s start from a premise: I believe that it is absolutely normal to want to lose weight, and also to fantasize about being able to lose it quickly without consequences for health. To date, losing many kilos in a short time without having health problems is almost impossible: the metabolism is lowered, the percentage of lean mass drops dramatically (and this obviously affects the basal metabolism), and when the diet that is miraculously dropping weight ends, that lean mass does not recover easily.
The body, with a low metabolism, will first accumulate fat. This is why people who undergo crash diets regain double the weight they lost.
But there’s more: weight loss always involves a hormonal readjustment.
In the case of the HCG diet, the influence of the HCG hormone obviously worsens our hormonal picture at the end of the treatment, further compromising our state of health. On page two we see why.Â
