Diet to activate the metabolism: does it exist?

Diet to activate the metabolism: does it exist?

Diet to activate the metabolism: does it exist? The answer is generally no, if the diet is low-calorie.

The answer is no  if we use thermogenics for weight loss , or those so-called fat burning supplements that often contain nerve substances , so called because they act on the central nervous system : these substances include all exciting foods of some kind such as tea, coffee, guarana and the like. . Depending on their type, in fact, these substances cause addiction and possible toxic effects, obviously subjective and linked to the dose and time of consumption. These foods stimulate the basal metabolic rate ( here a study ), but also create a stress response , which the body will try to adapt to.
Put simply: they can undoubtedly help awaken the metabolism, but the body’s tendency to become addicted to these substances makes it difficult to talk about a long-term remedy to activate the metabolism.
In addition, attention must be paid to both the dosage and possible side effects.

Finally, the answer is yes , if we follow a diet that corrects a problem of our slow metabolism  in two directions:
– an increase in the protein content. Protein foods increase muscle protein synthesis and enhance the effect of diet-induced thermogenesis. Obviously we must not exaggerate. A trade-off could be making sure you are getting at least one gram / one and a half grams of protein per pound of body weight loss. If we want to lose weight and are low-calorie, keeping protein consumption high is a strategy to preserve lean mass and keep dietary thermogenesis high ( source ). – an increase in carbohydratesbut if we want to increase metabolism, improving our affinity for carbohydrates is the best strategy. This for example is what happens with reverse dieting .

But what does it mean to activate the metabolism?
For the body to burn more, it needs to take in more calories.
If we have been on a low-calorie diet for a long time,
no other low-calorie diet will allow us to unlock the weight stall in a tangible and lasting way. Furthermore, having a high metabolism does not mean losing weight at all, but putting the body in a position to burn more by accessing a greater availability of food, so that a new period of low calorie allows us to lose weight.. So the problem is that the low-calorie diet is practically never a diet to activate the metabolism. In fact, weight loss is associated with a reduction in basal metabolism and some thermogenetic activities. So if you are looking for a diet to activate your metabolism with the intention of losing weight right away, you are on the wrong approach . A first solution could be to increase your metabolism by being careful to consume enough protein, more calories and more carbohydrates.
But is there no risk of gaining weight? Yes.
Only later,
when we manage to maintain a stable body weight, will we be able to think about losing weight, and therefore set up a low-calorie diet.
