Diet for candida: how to beat it
What is meant by candida? Candidiasis or candidiasis is the effect of increased production of a family of fungi known as candida, but is typically due to only one of these fungi, Candida Albicans . In general, each of us has these fungi in the mouth, throat, digestive tract, skin, nails, rectal and vaginal level. If it seems to you that candida is everywhere, well, that’s it. It is the most common fungus in the human body.
But, if we all have candida, not all of us have candidiasis, which instead is a state of imbalance, in which the growth of the fungus increases and this leads to a particular infectious picture.
Today we know that those who undergo antibiotic therapy, those who are immunosuppressed, in a strong state of stress or those who have an excess of estrogen are more sensitive to candidiasis. Same thing for those who neglect intimate hygiene, those who use catheters, those suffering from diabetes, those suffering from alcoholism, those taking birth control pills, those with lactose or yeast intolerance.
These are also risk categories.
DIET FOR CANDIDA: LET’S DISCHARGE SOME MYTHS
It has been denied that it is a diet rich in sugars that causes it, but instead the reduction of sugars (and carbohydrates in general) is useful for bringing candida values back to normal.
Likewise, leavened foods aren’t causing candidiasis . Although yeasts are fungi, they are actually different strains. So why do we hear that sugars and leavened foods can cause candidiasis?
Because it seems that the main problem causing candidiasis is a digestive problem, or rather, intestinal dysbiosis or excess intestinal fermentation.
This causes some fungi such as candida, just like some dangerous bacteria, to proliferate, causing the inflammatory state. For example, those who are allergic to yeasts but continue to eat them; those with gluten sensitivity but continue to eat gluten; those who often have a swollen stomach and digestive problems but do not solve them: here, in these cases it is easier to suffer from candidiasis too.
CANDIDA DIET: CLEANSE PHASE
In general, the candida diet is a diet that reduces the amount of problematic foods to digest, such as some types of carbohydrates, foods that contain gluten, foods that contain casein, some types of fiber. At the same time, probiotics and yogurt with live lactic ferments in general are very helpful in defeating an excessive proliferation of candida. The ideal thing is therefore to start with a cleanse (or a detox) of about 4 days if we suffer from candidiasis.
In these 4 days it is necessary to preferably consume:
lean meat and fish or at least eggs; cooked and raw vegetables; delactosed Greek yogurt and / or probiotics and / or kefir water or kefir milk; decaffeinated tea or decaffeinated coffee; stevia instead of sugar; lemon juice, meat broth, non-nut vegetable broths; citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, lemon; basmati or white rice. Spicy spices are to be avoided, while aromatic herbs are ok.
For example:
Breakfast with water and lemon juice, a delactosed Greek yogurt or a two-egg omelette, a decaffeinated tea, three rice cakes with a little almond butter. Juice
snack
Lunch with meat broth with a small handful of plain rice, plus a vegetable dish with a drizzle of oil.
Snack with lactose-free greek yogurt
Dinner with steamed fish and escarole stir-fried with garlic and oil, plus an herbal tea.
After these 4 days, you can switch to a more varied diet which includes the following foods:
Cereals and carbohydrates: rice, corn, sorghum, buckwheat, quinoa.
Flours: coconut, almond, quinoa, buckwheat
Milk: delactosed skim, sugar-free almond, sugar-free coconut, sugar-free soy
Vegetables: all but the one that causes excessive intestinal fermentation such as cauliflower.
Meat, fish, eggs: the first two in small portions
Meat broth, fish broth, herbal teas, citrus juices or water and lemon
Fruit: ok kiwi, red fruits such as currants or blueberries, citrus fruits. The others should be excluded.
Skim or whole milk delactosed Greek yogurt, kefir milk, probiotics
Rice / corn cakes
Stevia for sweetening (avoid other sweeteners and any sweet product that uses these sweeteners)
Decaffeinated tea and coffee or herbal tea
Olive oil for seasoning
Oily fruit in moderation (and related butters)
The diet should preferably include only these foods until the symptoms disappear, but even after their disappearance, it must be followed for the next 2-3 weeks. Here is an example of a candida diet.
DIET FOR CANDIDA: EXAMPLE
