Cosmopolitan’s epic fail: controversy over an article
Cosmopolitan magazine has been in the eye of the storm for a few days for the clickbaiting allegations on the news of a woman who lost a lot of weight due to cancer: the magazine would in fact “pack” the article with the photo of the smiling subject and above a captivating title, which reads “This woman lost 44 pounds without any exercise”. But by reading the article you discover the story of S., a 31-year-old mother who first gained weight following the news of having an intestinal neoplasm, only to lose it while she was being treated, trying to eat more consciously since for the her health condition was unable to go to the gym.
So, if on the one hand cancer was not the consequence of this woman’s weight loss , on the other, the title of the article trivializes her story as a trick to lose weight (from the series “look how she did it …”), therefore trivializes a terrible disease. Despite the correction of the title and the cancellation of part of the article , the controversy against Cosmopolitan does not seem to diminish, especially thanks to Twitter and magazines such as Page Six, where jokes and digs against the famous magazine all underline the same point. ” Cosmopolitan poses a secret to weight loss that requires no exercise (it’s cancer)”  . Offensive tweets have been removed, but the controversy shows no sign of ending.
