Changing your eating habits too many times is bad for you

We are always looking for the perfect diet, especially if we intend to lose weight. But be careful. A new study warns people who try to change eating habits too many times, switching from one diet to another.

Low in carbohydrates and high in fat, then switch to a vegan diet and then switch back to a high-fiber, gluten-free or dairy-free diet. And finally return to a more caloric regimen.

All these changes in our diet may not lead us to the well-being that we want, physically and healthily.
Indeed, it would be quite the opposite.

CHANGING FOOD HABITS TOO MANY TIMES HURTS

According to a study by researchers from the University of Sheffield and the Brown Institute, in fact, it seems that changing eating habits too often, going from a reduction in calories to a reduction or elimination of certain foods and then returning to eating as before, can trigger a strange survival mechanism in our body.
Particularly if you are on a restrictive calorie diet.

According to these researchers, stress is created at the metabolic and immune levels that have a dramatic impact on health: the risk of disease and infertility increases, and life expectancy is reduced.

Researchers found that fruit flies that switched diets by reducing calories or macronutrients became ill and perished prematurely, and were unable to lay eggs once they returned to eating as before.

The fruit insect species used by researchers is among the most stress-resistant living things. In fact, it is Drosophilia melanogaster,  the insect that is used in practically all studies on longevity.
If such an insect has health consequences while being so resistant to stress, it means that for us humans it is much, much worse. That’s why the researchers worried.

“Our most surprising discovery was that under certain circumstances, restrictive diets can also be the source of certain types of harm in the individual,” said Dr. Mirre Simons, one of the authors of the study. Among the restrictive diets for which to use precaution, also the fasting-mimicking diet of Dr. Longo.

In short, it is better not to deprive yourself of anything even if you want to lose weight, and above all not to upset your life by changing your diet, but trying to take gradual steps.
