Biliopancreatic diversion to lose weight
According to a recent Swedish study , one of the least performed bariatric surgery procedures, biliopancreatic diversion, is also the one that gives the best results in terms of weight loss in patients in the long term:  it is in fact a surgical procedure against obesity. among the least performed, an intervention that allows to reduce the intestinal absorption of starches and fats in the patient, guaranteeing a strong weight reduction (= malabsorptive intervention).
It can be performed with different techniques, but basically it consists of a gastric dissection or resection, whereby part of the stomach is no longer available to contain food. According to a survey by Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden, five years after surgery, people who have undergone biliopancreatic diversion have lost about 25 pounds more than those who have undergone gastric bypass, and in particular, success is achieved with a technique known as  duodenal switch. Furthermore, patients treated with the Duodenal Switch have lower levels of cholesterol, triglycerides and blood sugar. However, they are also the patients who have suffered major postoperative complications.Â
