Banana milk, the alternative to soy milk
A fresh vegetable milk and alternative to classic drinks such as rice or soy milk, much more natural and easy to make at home. Banana milk appears to be the new trend in dairy-free or vegan diets.
Paleo, vegan, and obviously lactose-free since it does not contain real milk, banana milk is 100% natural even if its commercial version in America, where it is popular, is already available, made by the Mooala company .
To be clear, we are not talking about those banana-flavored milk-based preparations. Not really a smoothie.
Banana milk is made directly from the fruit. The recipe is inspired by the traditional Korean drink or banana milk, which however typically includes a third of cow’s milk.
In this article we will see how to prepare it at home. It’s that easy.
BANANA MILK: THE RECIPE OF THE NEW VEGETABLE MILK
Ingredients for about half a liter
of banana milk (about 2 servings)
300 ml of natural mineral water
5 ice cubes
a ripe banana
of your choice: nutmeg or cinnamon, a pinch (or both)
vanilla flavor (optional)
a tablespoon of seeds of sunflower or 10 almonds or a teaspoon of chia seeds or a teaspoon of almond butter (8-9 g) or a generous tablespoon of coconut milk for cooking
a pinch of whole or sea salt (do not skip it)
Method
1. Soak the sunflower seeds or almonds or chia seeds in the water for a few hours. Those who want a sweeter result can add a chopped date. You can also keep water and seeds in the fridge overnight, as banana milk is prepared and consumed on the spot. If you use almond butter instead, skip the soaking step.
2. Pour the water into a blender with the selected seeds or the water and a teaspoon of almond butter.
3. Add the spices, a pinch of whole or sea salt, the ice, the banana (about 110-120 grams, medium) in pieces. Blend very well, so that the ingredients mix well. If you want you can filter the mixture before serving.
Drink immediately, otherwise you can store it in the fridge in a closed container, but it will change color.
If you want to avoid it, you can add a few drops of lemon juice.
So if you want you can prepare it for breakfast and enjoy it at the moment.
Kcal (without the date): 30 per 100 ml. Per portion: 75. With the date 92.
