As a nuclear receptor it accelerates metabolism
A study by the Yale University School of Medicine bodes well in the fight against obesity and extra pounds, so much so that this time we could seriously cry out to the miracle of science: researchers have in fact identified in the glitazone receptor, the receptor Peroxisome proliferator- activated receptor gamma (PPAR-gamma or PPARG), a way to speed up the metabolism even in the face of a fat and sugar diet. This receptor is in fact responsible for glucose metabolism and regulates the storage of fatty acids.
Its inhibition in mice appears to have increased metabolism and reduced appetite at the same time. To do this, the researchers genetically manipulated the mice. It will be a long time before effective experiments can be done on humans, yet this has all the air of being a surprising discovery.
