Over the past few hours , Apple has been fined in Brazil for its decision to stop including a wall charger inside the iPhone 12 box , the latest addition launched last fall. The Brazilian state of Sao Paulo was not too happy with the move and on Friday Procon-SP – the state consumer protection agency – fined the tech giant an amount equivalent to about $ 1.9 million for breaching the its Consumer Defense Code. The amount of the fine is clearly reduced for a companywhich recorded revenues of 111.4 billion dollars in the last quarter alone, definable among other things as a record of earnings arrived in a period of considerable success for the company. Despite this, however, recently some rumors have seen the production of the iPhone 12 Mini stopped due to its poor sales .

Following the fine, Procon-SP executive director Fernando Capez warned California-based Apple that it should be careful to comply with Brazilian consumer laws and institutions. According to  9to5Mac , Apple did not respond to Procon-SP requests when asked if it had reduced the cost of the iPhone 12 after removing the charger. It also didn’t offer any answers to questions about the price of the iPhone with and without a charger and whether it had reduced the number of chargers it produced.

When the  news first surfaced in December 2020 , Apple insisted that it removed the charger for environmental reasons , a decision that allows it to avoid wasting precious raw materials and energy building components that many people already own. . Despite that, critics weren’t impressed, saying Apple would make the move in an effort to get customers to choose its wireless MagSafe charger or faster power supply.
