Just over a month after the arrival of the first Developer Preview , Google has released in the past few hours the second beta of the new version of its mobile operating system , currently reserved for developers and testers. If with the DP 1 we had the opportunity to take a look at what will be the new graphic interface of the green robot, the second offers us the opportunity to try some of the functions that will almost certainly be part of Android 12 . Available via OTA (over-the air) update that can be downloaded directly from the smartphone or can be installed via factory image, the DP 2 of Android 12 introduces several really interesting innovations.
First of all, we find a very intelligent implementation of the PiP (Picture in Picture) functionality, that is the one that allows us to watch video content even outside the app from which we started playback. In Android 12 the transition will be smoother than in previous versions of the operating system and the video will be shown automatically on the other screens, as soon as we exit the application that is playing it. It will also be possible to resize the window with appropriate gestures . The API called CompanionDeviceService was also introduced, which has the task of improving the efficiency of applications that manage other devices such as, for example, fitness trackers andsmartwatch .
In addition, some refinements have been made to the system interface  . There is now a dark theme for the UI, the list of widgets has been redesigned in a more compact way and, importantly, the mode that facilitates one-handed use has been made functional. Google is continuously improving and updating the new version of Android so, as anticipated last time, some of the features seen in the Developer Preview may not be included in the stable version of the software. Pending the arrival of the next beta, we remind you that the DP versions of Android 12 can be downloaded by all those who have a Google Pixel , from model 3 to 5.
