A weight loss drug coming from Australia?
A new weight loss drug is on the way , this time developed by a team of Australian researchers, who swear they have finally found a safe way to fight obesity and promote rapid weight loss without regaining the lost weight. Dream or reality? Apparently a barely successful dream, indeed, a nightmare. Austin Hospital ‘s Melbourne team allegedly developed a weight loss drug that is actually obtained by combining two drugs: topiramate and phentermine . It is a matter of mixing two anorectic drugs already existing on the market , or two drugs used to suppress patients’ appetite, not without side effects, on the contrary. Coincidentally,in the study conducted on 103 patients it was found that:
– before taking the drug all patients were already on a severe low-calorie diet – 61 patients were unable to continue the therapy: of these, 41 had health problems due to following the side effects of its combination medications. In practice 40% of the sample . – only 30 patients continued to lose weight and did not regain weight even later: it is a pity that they lost seven kilos in twenty-two months . I remind you that they were put on a low-calorie diet. A colossal flop. Ten percent of the sample is missing: will he be lost?
Although the results are anything but encouraging, the FDA has approved the drug , which will soon be on the market.
To the detriment of patients, at least in 40 percent of cases they will have various side effects on their health.
