A fish-based diet for depression
Eating fish , even every day, at least once a day, would not only have no contraindications for health, but would also help fight depression , and would also act as a preventative measure. According to a group of Chinese scientists who analyzed a sample of 150,000 people suffering from depression or at risk of depression, a fish-based diet, with a daily meal dedicated to fish or shellfish, reduced the risk of symptoms by a fifth.
Professor Dongfeng Zhang, from the Department of Epidemiology and Health Statistics, Medical College of Qingdao University, Shandong, China, who led the study , explained that the omega-3 fats contained in fish would have a beneficial effect on mood and brain, stimulating the action of dopamine and serotonin: but be careful, omega3 supplements are of no use, which according to another study are ineffective in safeguarding mental health. Instead, a fish-based meal a day is better.
No mention in the study on plant resources that contain omega3, but I remind you: linseed oil, flaxseed and chia are the only foods to have a concentration similar to that of fatty fish. Walnuts, dried oregano, basil, dried marjoram, spinach and cauliflower (in that order) are also good.
