Cat aggression

Aggression and its symptoms

There are certain stressful situations in which the dog and cat are particularly aggressive and can trigger an improper defense instinct.

There are very good dogs and cats that have a great capacity for tolerance even in highly stressful contexts, while some subjects have an exaggerated perception of danger .

The dog and the cat defend their own space which is not only the house, the garden or the kennel, but also the space around them, within which the approach of another is perceived as dangerous; this is represented by the critical distance, more or less narrow around the body, and by the safety distance, wider around the individual.

Each subject experiences the breadth of these two areas in a completely personal way. What is certain is that the closer you physically to the subject, the more its critical distance is violated. Overcrowded and closed places can cause the natural tendency of the defense ration of one’s space, so much so that experts on animal behavior, especially dogs, classify them as very high risk, absolutely to be avoided.

Dog aggression: natural cures and remedies

Among the herbal remedies useful for controlling a dog’s aggressive state are:

  • Lemon balm and verbena : they calm dogs that are too agitated and overreact to every stimulus. They can be administered in the form of dry extract.
  • Scutellaria: acts specifically on nervous fear, especially if it is accompanied by intestinal spastic states (colic, diarrhea, flatulence).

Bach flowers are very useful for keeping dog aggression under control. Depending on the type of aggressive behavior, the following flower essences can be administered:

  • Beech: it helps to be tolerant towards what is external to oneself, to understand it and live it to the fullest;
  • Rock rose: suitable for those who lose control due to terror;
  • Chicory: useful in case of exaggerated possessiveness;
  • Holly: for the jealous dog who displays explicit aggression.

These flowers can be used separately, but it would be good to prepare a flower arrangement of those that are more corresponding to the emotion of the dog to act on the different emotional planes involved in this type of stressful situations. The aim is to make the critical space more “permeable” to the presence of others. The floral composition must be able to soften an armor that is instinctive, therefore difficult to access.
