In recent weeks, alarming news has come from China regarding the growing number of people affected by the coronavirus . However, messages of hope

are also spreading from Wuhan . This is the case, for example, of Lao Mao , a forty-three year old who has been taking action for a few days to save pets left alone in the house.

In the press , in fact, there is mention of this man (Lao Mao – which means Old Cat  – is his nickname) who, together with other volunteers, climbs up ledges and gutters to reach the houses, thus providing assistance to dogs and cats. abandoned.

Pets who are hungry or who are in difficulty because their owners affected by the virus are in quarantine or have been rushed to hospital without having had time to leave their pet in foster care.

Lao Mao’s business

To rescue kittens left home alone for ten days, at the end of January, Lao Mao climbed the rusty pipes of a building .

Reaching the third floor, the young man managed to access the home of an elderly couple and bring food to the animals hidden under the sofa, which risked dying of hunger. He then made a video call to the owners who thanked him moved.

The news spread on social media and immediately went viral , so other people hospitalized, quarantined or blocked in other countries began to contact the boy to ask him to intervene again. In a few days, therefore, the hashtag #SavethepetsleftbehindinWuhan has become one of the main search keys of Weibo , the Chinese microblogging site, a sort of hybrid between Twitter and Facebook, which is one of the most popular sites in China.

Pets to save

According to the words of Lao Mao – who prefers to remain anonymous to prevent his family from fearing for his safety , knowing that around the city – about 50,000 pets are currently left alone at home in Wuhan.

To cope with all this, other volunteers also joined the 43-year-old Chinese , providing assistance to about 1000 animals in difficulty.

However, bad news is also coming from China these days . Throughout the nation, in fact, masks for dogs and cats have spread, not to mention that in recent weeks the number of animals abandoned, killed or thrown out of windows has grown due to the irrational fear of the spread of the coronavirus .

And that’s not all: the residents of Suichang county since last Friday have been forced to keep their dogs indoors , to prevent them from being killed if found free in public land.
