The dangerous (?) Falun Gong
In London, in many parts of Europe and recently also in Italy, Falun Gong is being talked about. A practice of Qi gong but also a strong belief that has created several tensions in China
The interest was already born when a person very attentive to ancient and new forms of work on energy and meditation had submitted me to the official website of Falung Gong . Then, here in London, as I am in a health research center, I read these words: ” Falun Gong is a totally peaceful system of thought that raises the quality of moral behavior.”, Lord Avebury, UK Parliamentary Human Rights Group.
Intrigued, I went to look for other quotes. It seems that a certain David Kilgour, Canada’s first Secretary of State, declared that ” The regime in China , for no real reason other than paranoia, has seen and has seen a threat in Falung Gong since July 1999, the year in which they were mass actions are launched to eliminate these groups of practitioners. “ The interest immediately increased and the desire to read up too.
What is Falun Gong
I don’t know if you have ever tried some Chinese energy exercises known as Qi Gong . They heal the body, heat and massage internal organs and create a deep contact between the person and his or her breath . I practice these exercises quite regularly, but I have never heard of Falun Gong . It seems that it is a practice consisting of very slow movements that derives from the same tradition of other more well-known Qi gong exercises. They are described as practices that improve health, vitality and harmony .
These exercises convey the principles of a philosophy that does not have a specific name but rests on three pillars: Truthfulness, Kindness, Forbearance . (In all the sites and brochures that I have found, the values are indicated with a capital letter, so I stick to it).
In summary, those who practice them should become more honest, develop a certain humility and a sense of inner peace to spread throughout the world.
Falun Gong or Falun Dafa ?
Searching and researching, in addition to Falun Gong , I find another name Falun Dafa . After a short research I understand that it is the same practice. Released in 1992 by Mr. Li Hongzi , it is said that by 1998 the practitioners had already grown to the number of 100 million.
Who is this Mr. Li Hongzi? The founder of a method that he himself claims can favor the assimilation to the highest qualities of the universe – Zhen 真 Shan 善 Ren 忍. This seems to be precisely the point of the practice: to know deeply, and therefore, in some way, to come to “resemble in spirit” those qualities that belong to the universe: the aforementioned Truths, Kindness, Forbearance. At the reference site there are also series exercises performed by Li Hongzi himself.
The final purpose is very similar to enlightenment , and the term is to mean that form close to the non-form of the Tao , or a way of “becoming a Tao”, becoming “the Way”. It is a whole series of references that belong to the Taoist tradition.
Falun Gong and the Chinese Communist Party
In all the flyers I found in London relating to Falun Gong – which, it is claimed, were created, printed and paid for by volunteers – there is talk of a direct attack on practitioners of the system by the Chinese Communist Party. The noun that recurs is precisely “persecution”, the one that the Party allegedly initiated against practitioners, first in a milder way and then, since 1999, in a more decisive and resolute way. Generic data is reported from a 2005 UN document which would indicate that among the torture cases at least 66% reported the names of practitioners of the Falun Gong method.
These flyers feature the names and faces of massacred or disfigured practitioners. The widespread practice of recovering the organs of killed practitioners for transplantation is also reported.
On the crime and the therapeutic nature of these exercises we will continue to seek information …a
