Proper nutrition to lose weight. Speak Dr. Weaver
The biochemist and nutritionist Libby Weaver , author of several books on nutrition (for example, Accidentally Overweight ), as well as a woman in splendid physical shape, has written a new book, The Calorie Fallacy , unfortunately not translated into Italian, and forthcoming in the United States . Since it is nowhere to be found except on the doctor’s website, I took a cue from this interview to talk about it , as I think it is very important for those who want to lose weight to know what is the key to being in shape for a lifetime. In fact, Libby Weaver explains that weight loss is always secondary to proper nutrition: the closer we get to proper nutrition, the more we tend to lose weight, while the opposite is not true, that is, those who lose weight (with a diet) get closer to proper nutrition. If we change eating habits with the logic of losing weight, we are doomed to fail , according to Dr. Weaver. You change your diet for your own well-being, and the consequence is weight loss. What is the risk of doing the opposite? The risk is to fixate on calories, excluding entire categories of foods such as nuts and hazelnuts, for example, vegetable oils and other products with a high percentage of fat. Or avoid certain efforts and certain physical activities convinced that they make us fat. Or embrace insane passing fads for rapid weight loss. Instead, if from tomorrow we put into practice the principles of proper nutrition, weight loss would be a logical consequence . Some solutions Dr. Weaver suggests to lose weight and eat more properly are to eat a lot more raw vegetables and fruits and not pay too much attention to calorie counts if we eat healthily. We avoid cooking vegetables as much as possible, to have the nutrients in vitamins and minerals we need and lose weight faster. We also avoid filling up with water during meals to increase the sense of satiety, because it compromises digestion.
