Does banana make you fat?
Does banana make you fat? Should we avoid it in the diet?
People who stigmatize certain natural foods always make me smile and believe they make you fat, contain too much sugar or whatever, especially since I noticed something. In fact, you will think that those who are afraid of gaining weight stay away from alcohol, from french fries, from refined foods, from bars with puffed cereals, from biscuits, from spreads.
But no. They worry about bananas, watermelons, figs, potatoes but the protein bar full of additives or croissant in the morning is ok.
Or you see them stuffing themselves with fruit yoghurt and spreadable cheeses that don’t even have much cheese, drinking liters of rice milk and eating gluten-free biscuits full of corn syrup.
But then they fear that legumes make you fat, that potatoes make you fat, that bananas make you fat.
Has it ever occurred to you that all that is natural does NOT make you fat and is not the cause of your overweight? Let’s take bananas.
DOES BANANA GET FAT?
The answer is no.
Bananas are sugary fruits, with a medium to high glycemic index for being fruit. But if we compare them to bread and pizza they have a lower glycemic index. This is because they contain half of glucose.
Bananas should NOT be eaten unripe, but ripe: when ripe it is true that they are sweeter and have more sugar, but also contain more minerals and more potassium. Having less fructose than other fruits, they do not ferment in the intestine. They are also a food that, if well tolerated (banana contains allergens) is very satisfying and reduces the desire for sweet. It also has no fat. There is a big difference between 100 calories of banana (one average banana weighing about 110 grams) and one hundred calories of cookies (three). Give it a try and see what satisfies you the most.
There are various BANANA DIETS , and the case of the Banana Girl is famous , the girl who eats 50 bananas a day being vegan and raw, and has lost many kilos thanks to bananas. Banana is very present in the fruitarian diet. Yet those who eat only fruit, even very sugary ones, have a lower weight and a better blood sugar. It has been found that reducing fat also reduces insulin resistance. So yes, there is a greater difference between a banana and three cookies.
More or less everyone likes bananas: they contain potassium, so they are excellent in those suffering from hypertension and water retention.
Many detox smoothies and many nutritionally great preparations, such as Budwig cream, contain half a ripe banana.
This is due to the potassium of the banana and its excellent fibers.
We can use bananas for our diet and continue to lose weight.
I’ll explain how.
- Eating it in the morning , combined with proteins and very little fat for an excellent breakfast. By mashing a ripe banana with an egg, a pinch of salt and a pinch of cinnamon, you can get excellent pancakes, to be enjoyed with a spoonful of skimmed Greek yogurt. Either in low-fat Greek yogurt, or mashed with fresh light ricotta and a spoonful of oat flakes, for a Budwig-like cream.
Again, in an egg white crepe stuffed with banana and bitter cocoa. - Using it in sweets, instead of sugar and half of the eggs (the fibers of the banana are viscous). Take two ripe ones, mash them and mix them with a glass of wholemeal flour, a package of whole white Greek yogurt, an egg white and a pinch of yeast and put the mixture in muffin molds. You will get excellent dietary and sugar-free muffins.
- In a detox smoothie : Blend a whole banana with a large cucumber, a glass of sugar-free soy milk and half a fennel. You will not be able to drink it all and it will stave off nervous hunger one hundred percent. Or, banana blended with coconut water. Excellent source of potassium for those suffering from hypertension.
Precisely because of its excellent taste, banana is an ideal fruit, which can drive us away from the desire for sweets and refined foods that are much heavier. Eaten like this, even two or three times a week, it does not make you fat, and due to its excellent nutritional profile it is particularly suitable for athletes.
If we include them in a balanced meal, demonizing the banana is truly ridiculous.
