Pasta does not make you fat, according to prof. Calabrese
The pasta? It does not make you fat. Word of Professor Giorgio Calabrese, one of the most competent people we have in Italy in the field of nutrition, and a supporter of the goodness and healthiness of the Mediterranean diet.
Why is pasta thought to make you fat? Why do so many people avoid it today?
-
The first problem is that pasta contains carbohydrates.
And that these are unfairly demonized, preferring carbohydrate-free diets for weight loss. In fact, there are plenty of carbohydrate diets like pasta and rice to lose body fat without harming your metabolism.
-
The second problem is that, more than pasta, it harms the sauce.
An 80-gram plate of pasta provides just under 300 calories. If we add a lot of vegetables or a good simple sauce, we reach 400 calories for a dish that can also be unique and satisfying. Pasta, therefore, does not necessarily mean adding bacon, cream, cheese, meat sauce.
It is clear that if we are on a diet, the most caloric pasta-based dishes should be limited to Sundays.
Let’s see in detail why according to prof. Calabrese pasta does not make you fat.
THIS IS WHY PASTA DOESN’T GET FAT ACCORDING TO PROF. CALABRIAN
On several occasions, prof. Calabrese defended the reasonable consumption of pasta in our daily diet.
He also commented on the nonsense of protein or carbohydrate-free diets, such as the Dukan or the ketogenic diet.
The pounds lost on these diets are quickly regained, explains the doctor.
Does pasta make you fat? Are carbohydrates the devil ? But not even for a dream.
Indeed, if we enjoy a plate of pasta accompanied by a glass of red wine, we stay in shape with taste .
The diets of the centenarians, those of the Blue Zones, are all united by the consumption of complex carbohydrates, such as rice, pasta, legumes.
«Carbohydrates such as pasta and bread are rich in starches, which can lower the body’s production of insulin. Insulin, which is a lipogenic, fat producing hormone. High-protein diets, rich in meat, work in the initial two to three months, then the body increases the production of insulin and you end up with a fat mass that you no longer know how to eliminate. Even Pierre Dukan, recently expelled from the French Medical Order, has now understood this. So much so that he has started selling energy bars, and he no longer insists on the consumption of proteins ”,
(Giorgio Calabrese).
Still not convinced? If you are afraid of pasta, an alternative is wholemeal or with ancient grains: it improves digestion and allows us to better dispose of fats with its intake of fiber and its lower glycemic index.
