Do cumin seeds make you lose weight?
That cumin seeds had properties that favored weight loss was already known: not only cumin seeds are used in Ayurveda for recipes that would promote weight loss (click here to read them), but a study has already appeared in the magazine  Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practic and had highlighted how those who took cumin seeds twice a day lost more weight than the placebo-treated control group. Another study is now being added to this study.
Published on  Phytotherapy Research , the study is interesting both for the period of three months of observation, and for the fact that also in this case the group of 70 volunteers was divided among those who took 30 ml of aqueous extract of caraway seeds. and who took a placebo. Another very interesting fact is that the participants were not on a weight loss regime, nor did they change anything in their level of physical activity (while doing aerobic activities). Finally, that for once the participants were only women. Well, cumin seed extract
appears to suppress appetite: people after three months of treatment were much less hungry and in particular ate fewer carbohydrates (complete with a “pizza test”), immediately feeling a sense of satiety. Their waistline has shrunk by an average of 6 centimeters!
This detail may lead us to think that cumin seeds, better than other spices such as cinnamon, improve insulin sensitivity , and may be useful for those suffering from metabolic syndrome, diabetes, high cholesterol. Many cumin extract consumers in America have made rave comments that cumin extract would reduce abdominal bloating, helping them have a much flatter tummy.
Instead of the aqueous extract, it is possibleuse the mother tincture of caraway seeds or caraway seeds (not to be confused with black cumin), in a dose of 20-30 drops 3 times a day. It is found in herbalists. Warning: it is not recommended during pregnancy.
