Light Christmas sweets: the apple crumble
The apple crumble is a dessert that can be delicious, and that for its simplicity and goodness is worth a try at least once in a lifetime, especially at Christmas.
In fact, the crumble is one of the light Christmas sweets par excellence. It is in fact an apple dessert or a mix of winter fruit, such as apples and plums, apples and blueberries, or pears, traditional in English-speaking countries, but still little known to us despite being very simple to prepare.
In fact, it is a question of cooking the fruit in pieces with a mix of spices and on top of a crunchy crust made by mixing flour or cereals or crumbled biscuits with butter and sugar.
Here a delicious and simple recipe, with pecans that we can replace with almonds, pistachios or Brazilian nuts. It has that something extra that makes it a perfect dessert for Christmas and worthy of a table with guests, but with only 150 calories per serving. Almost a third of a slice of pandoro.
CHRISTMAS LIGHT SWEETS
APPLE CRUMBLE WITH PECAN WALNUTS
For 6 servings
- three large green granny smith apples cut into thin slices (or three yellow apples alternatively)
- spice mix (a teaspoon of cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg, half a teaspoon of ground ginger)
- 2 large tablespoons of raw sugar such as Muscovado or coconut palm sugar
- two tablespoons of buckwheat flour or alternatively 2 tablespoons of breadcrumbs
for the crust
- 70 gr of oat flakes
- 40 gr of crumbled biscuits (such as pavesini, amaretti, or digestive)
- 2 tablespoons of raw sugar
- a sprinkle of cinnamon
- a tablespoon of crumbled pecans (or almonds)
- grated zest of one lemon or vanilla
- 2 tablespoons of butter (25-30 g)
Method.
Cut the apples into slices, mix them with the spices, sugar and flour and place them in a lightly buttered ceramic or glass dish. In a bowl, mix all the ingredients for the crust (the butter must be melted) trying to obtain a crumbled and grainy mixture that is not too uniform.
Sprinkle the mixture over the apples and bake for 25-30 minutes at 180 °, until the crust is light brown in color, like a biscuit. By inserting a toothpick, the apples inside should stick easily but not come off with the toothpick. If you want, spend a few seconds on the grill.
Serve in spoonfuls accompanying with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a spoonful of whole Greek yogurt worked separately with a little brown sugar and currants.Â
