Does the gym make you lose weight?
People who join the gym fall into two categories: those who keep going and those who usually quit after one to three months. The first are those that gradually obtain results; the latter those who expect the gym to make them lose weight in the time and in the way they want. For example, off a size in two weeks, and off the fat in the thighs.
This approach is obviously wrong, and easily leads to disillusionment. But it is also legitimate to expect to lose weight in the gym, that is, to work towards a goal.
So, let’s go back to the starting point: does the gym make you lose weight? The answer is: not always.
Let’s see in which cases yes.
WHEN DOES THE GYM MAKE YOU LOSE LOSS?
1) The gym makes you lose weight if it creates a calorie deficit: to do this, aerobic activity is important, even if it doesn’t have to be our only activity. In fact, this allows us to burn calories and improve the cardiovascular system, but be careful: we must not overdo it . Therefore it is useless to do hours of cardio every day , hours of treadmill and hours between zumba and exercise bike. A good 40-60 minute cardio is more than enough, not before an activity like crossfit or weight room to gain lean mass.
2) The gym makes you lose weight so if you don’t compensate afterwards:I have heard people run for 40 minutes on the treadmill and then say “Now I deserve a nice pizza”. No, if we consider that the calories of an average pizza exceed a thousand and 40 minutes of running on the treadmill make us burn about three hundred calories, if we think we deserve a pizza because we worked for about 40 minutes, we are wrong. For the exact same reason, beware of cheat meal: if you are not doing some kind of athletic work, you can’t think of eating food on a Saturday night.
3) The gym makes you lose weight if your body composition improves:Â if we use the gym to improve our body composition by putting muscle at the expense of fat mass, this procedure will lead us to be leaner over time.
