The singer’s diet: how should singers eat?
How should singers feed themselves? Is there a singer’s diet? We find out in this article by Dr. Giovanna Corona , nutrition biologist and sports nutritionist based in Rome. His are the dietary tips that you will read below.
Nutrition for a singer plays a fundamental role in preserving the voice and avoiding minor inconveniences during the performance, says Dr. Giovanna Corona – nutrition biologist. The singer’s diet  will therefore not have a goal of weight loss , but, rather, to preserve the vocal function, trying to keep the vocal cords efficient, and to arrive calmly at the performance.
To preserve the vocal cords and the oropharyngeal tract in general and prevent inflammation or, worse, infections, it is recommended, starting 2/3 weeks before the performance, to take a teaspoon of honey for breakfast, which has remarkable antibacterial properties.
Limit very cold foods such as ice cream or cold water (the optimal temperature is the ambient temperature).
Also avoid very crunchy or angular foods whose crumbs, or insufficient chewing, could scratch the inside of the throat.
It is recommended to include herbal teas based on erisimo, thyme and licorice in the diet , even in a mix of all three, even better if enriched with a teaspoon of honey, which has antibacterial and soothing properties for the throat.
As a preparation, in the days before, but especially during the days of performances, it is important to avoid foods that could cause gastroesophageal refluxor that could be irritating to the digestive system.
