Konjac flour, new products are coming

I have already told you about products based on konjac flour , a special vegetable fiber with a rubbery consistency known as konjac (from the plant) or glucomannan, which in recent years has also arrived in Italy with shirataki spaghetti and other pasta shapes that have the advantage of having few calories (less than twenty for the hydrated product), of being very easy to prepare (it is not necessary to boil them, but only to rinse and season them) and to be therefore ideal in low-calorie diets, but also in those without carbohydrates. The peculiarity of konjac flour is in fact that of being a type of water-soluble fiber that is not assimilated calorically: this fiber is in fact practically expelled from the intestine, which is why konjac pasta and other products with this flour have no calories or carbohydrates.

As I said, compared to shirataki spaghetti alone, the offer in recent times has definitely expanded.
The latest on the market is Rawpasta, which also offers glucomannan replacement meals, products such as konjac rice, low-calorie sauces, various shapes of pasta and noodles and even konjac pancakes: their texture is obviously not floury like the products from cereals, but basically “rubbery ” as with the typical consistency of glucomannan. Rawpasta pancakes also feature protein powders and flavorings, so they’re not completely calorie-free (about 20 for pancakes), both vegetable and non-vegetable.

In short, everything is fine, except that, as I said in the article for shirataki pasta, konjac flour, being water-soluble fiber, cannot be taken in large quantities (and you must always remember to drink more if we take it or we may incur constipation phenomena: if we hydrate sufficiently, instead it helps regularity), and must be taken in moderation in people suffering from gastrointestinal disorders. Also be careful, as with all fiber-based products, if you take medications.
