Ideal weight, does it really exist?

Today I am writing a slightly bucking article, which concerns the ideal weight: we know that there is something called “body mass index” which is nothing more than a value that is obtained by means of the ratio between height and weight. Based on the body mass index, there are “ranges” of ideal weight with an oscillation of + or – five kilos ( see table ).

IDEAL WEIGHT AND LIMITS OF THE BODY MASS INDEX OR BMI
The problems all lie in the limit of the body mass index as an indication  of the state of health of a person , because the ratio between weight and height of a person says nothing about his composition body , i.e. its percentage of lean and fat mass. Which is serious. Which means, for example, that a person who is at their ideal weight but has little lean mass is substantially fatter and less healthy than a person who is overweight by BMI, but has a lot of muscle and little. fat mass, such as a bodybuilder.
Given then how much the body mass index is purely indicative, it is not a sufficient parameter to establish whether or not we are in our ideal weight, but I had already talked about this in Calculate your ideal weight .
Let’s go back to the idea of the ideal weight and think of a person who fights with extra pounds.

IDEAL WEIGHT AND TOO MUCH KILOS
Now: if the definition of ideal weight is so “fluctuating”, from what point can we say that our pounds are extra pounds?
The answers can be:
– if we have a percentage of fat mass greater than 25/30% for women and 18/25% for men
– if our health conditions are such that our fat mass has a negative effect
Especially if it occurs the second condition, it makes sense to speak of “extra pounds”.

IDEAL WEIGHT: ALSO MENTAL FACT
If the second condition does not occur , however, if your analyzes say that you are absolutely fine, your ideal weight becomes one in which your health conditions are simply optimal, and that makes you feel good ” in your shoes “. That is, it becomes a purely aesthetic question, of “bodily perception”.
Therefore subjective.
There are very thin women who make constant sacrifices to stay that weight even though they could, depending on their weight and height, put on up to five kilos. Famous cases are and have been Madonna and Jackie Kennedy.
Madonna exercises no less than two hours a day and eats in a hyperhealthy way: in my opinion she is too thin, but in an interview she clearly stated that she does not know how to see herself with more pounds on. Jacqueline Kennedy was famous for her diet, which she inspired more than one book: she ate barely once or twice a day, usually in one day she ate only a potato with caviar and sour cream. She had a sweet tooth and she never ate any. She sometimes she did fruit-only fasts.
Some women don’t see themselves with five extra pounds, even though they can afford it.
On the contrary, there are women who no longer see themselves thin, because they lose too much weight in the face or they dig themselves or other: beautiful women because they are curvy, who in another weight would lose their large breasts or round hips. There are women for whom the ideal weight is what they want in health but a little fatter than average.
And if health is okay, there is nothing wrong with that.
