DIETOX juices: should liquid detox be tried or not?

After seeing Babalove and Depuravita , today we talk about Dietox juices , the cold-pressed detox juices that are sold in number of 6 for a day of liquid detox or cleanse, by a Spanish company. To be clear: you buy these Dietox juices online, paying just over 50 euros, and they arrive at your home with an express courier. Being fresh, they should be eaten immediately or within six to seven days of arrival, and obviously kept in the fridge in case they are not consumed immediately. But do they work for weight loss?
The answer is no. An occasional fast can be useful every now and then, but it doesn’t lose weight per se and it doesn’t do it in a single day. Any weight that is lost after a day of not eating solid but liquid food is a weight of water, not body fat. The weight from body fat is in fact minimal or zero, if we do only one day of detoxifying diet.

Dietox offers, as I said, 6 daily juices: two are cold soups, with quinoa and spices, others are sweeter juices, with fruit extracts, and still others are greener. Each juice is rich in antioxidants, such as maca, cocoa, spirulina algae or chlorella.

In addition to the detox day, Dietox offers more interesting packages, from 3 to 5 days of juices or 3 + 7 days (including 3 days of juice diet and others of detoxification also through teas and herbal teas) , which may be valid for those who he wants to see himself deflated by 3-5 kilos in a short time: this type of offer is already more promising, even if the nutritional profile of the juices does not fully convince me . It is a question of consuming 800/900 calories a day for 3-5 days, depending on the package chosen, well below our basal metabolic rate, and the risk of suffering from dizziness, nervous hunger, weakness, is very high. It should be tried in a period when you are at home or on vacation, in any case in a situation of rest. And then be good atdo not compensate with an excess caloric after the treatment, avoiding eating more but returning to eat normally. It must also be considered that proteins are very few , well below the recommended daily threshold, and even a third less than the recommended threshold for a woman (16 grams of protein per day, with pea and rice protein combinations). A fee that I would not recommend for 5 days in a row.

It is true that there are semi-fasting programs such as that of the Prolon kit of Dr. Longo’s fasting-mimicking diet, which is precisely 5 days, but it is also true that it should be done under medical supervision.
Furthermore, as Dr. Riccardo dalle Grave explains in this very interesting article “it has been known for many years that the adoption of highly low-calorie diets increases the concern for food and the risk of developing episodes of overeating and bingeing [ 4-7], promotes long-term weight gain in normal-weight individuals [8] and in those predisposed is a risk factor for the development of eating disorders of clinical severity [9-11] “.

Another thing that puzzles me in the Dietox juices is the use of thickeners: xanthan gum is not well tolerated by everyone, it can cause flatulence and is contraindicated in those with gastro-intestinal problems, even if it works to stimulate the sense of satiety. it is an additive present in all Dietox juices, as well as in Beauty Waters, detox waters with hyaluronic acid, aromas and Q10 enzyme. Same caution about digestibility for protein powders.
The price is also, as often happens for these products, quite high, even if in line with other similar proposals. The 5-day diet program is 210 euros, the 10-day one (3 days of Dietox juices and 7 days of purifying diet) is perhaps the most convenient and safe, and costs 180 euros. More information on the Dietox website in Italian, here.
