Exercise to increase metabolism

Exercise to increase metabolism

Whenever I write an article on how to increase metabolism, if this article is not about nutrition, I always have comments from people who tell me that the problem is calories.
Today, however, we know that it is not exactly or just like that .

Stress, psycho-physical balance and the health of our cells and especially the functionality of our mitochondria are, for example, three essential aspects for increasing metabolism that are different from person to person.

Instead they are often ignored.

In fact, the problem of those who want to improve or increase their metabolism is that they often focus only on two aspects: nutrition, therefore diet, and physical activity.

In minor cases, there are those who buy supplements to stimulate the metabolism: however as I wrote here , they are not free from side effects.

Considering only these aspects is a way that does not reflect the complexity of the metabolism. Which is governed by many factors. And today, for example, we see a very important one: breathing.

Just one exercise a day is enough to increase metabolism by acting on breathing.
And the exercise I’m talking about today is scientifically proven.

WHY THIS EXERCISE IMPROVES METABOLISM

The exercise that I want to show you is something that anyone can do, and it works positively both in the way your body burns calories and in other important factors such as digestion, stress and the immune system.
So if you have difficulty losing weight, you are already careful what you eat but the situation does not change, I recommend that you read carefully here.

How does exercise to improve breathing increase metabolism?

Basically, breath-metabolicdiaphragmatic breathing has been proven to increase the level of oxygenation of the blood and tissues. By measuring the metabolic rate of people who did this simple breathing exercise, it was noticed that the level of oxygenation increased and, being oxygen involved in the metabolic mechanisms that allow us to use food for energy purposes, it increased the basal metabolism.

A 2018 study of 38 adult subjects showed that diaphragmatic breathing significantly increased basal metabolic rate as well as oxygen level, while other breathing exercises did not.
In fact, we know from other studies that body fat is essentially lost through breathing.

Australian scientist Rubeen Meerman gave an interesting talk on Ted in which he explains how breathing and weight loss are connected. (In addition, Meerman advises against drinking drinks with added carbon dioxide precisely because they interfere with this process.)

Now that I’ve explained a few things to you, let’s finally see how to do the breathing exercise to increase metabolism.

Do this exercise to increase your metabolism

You need to repeat this exercise three times in a row in the morning and three times in the afternoon.
Be consistent. So if you want metabolism results you have to make it a habit.

respiration-metabolism

  • Sit down, with your hands on your knees and your stomach in.
  • Inhale * through your nose * quickly, taking a deep inward breath. As you inhale, curve your back towards your abdomen and contract your abdomen harder.
  • Now exhale * with your mouth open * so as to let all the air out and start feeling it come out of the belly (actually the diaphragm, the muscle that separates the abdomen from the lungs: but the sensation will be more abdominal) and then move on to the lungs .
  • Now contract your abdomen again and hold your breath for an interval that can range from 10 to 30 seconds.
If you keep a hand on your stomach, you will find that when you can’t take it anymore, your belly jumps under the palm of your hand. That is a sign that you need to breathe.
  • I recommend, depending on your state of health, to start even just 5-6 seconds in which we hold our breath and then improve week after week.
  • Then re-inhale through the nose to allow the lungs to fill up with air again.
  • Repeat two more times.
