4 tips for diabetics, between diet and not
Los Angeles-based dietitian and diabetologist Dr. Lori Zanini was a guest of Dr. Oz in the new season, and provided four tips for diabetics who have just found out they are.Â
These are really very interesting advice, which perhaps even people who have known for years that they are diabetic (we are talking about type 2 diabetes) could listen to. Here they are.
4 tips for diabetics according to Dr. Lori Zanini
- First of all, you need to be well informed about what you can eat and what not.
Unfortunately, while it may seem strange, many people with high blood sugar (prediabetes) or type 2 diabetes continue to neglect their diet.Instead, asking your doctor everything, especially about nutrition, is the first real thing to do to limit the problem or even try to solve it. For example, a new protocol provides for a massive calorie restriction for a few days, but even a simple low-glycemic index diet can make our life easier. To know everything about the protocol, click here.
- Hydrate.
Those suffering from diabetes must drink more, preferring normal water and sugar-free herbal teas, while absolutely avoiding juices of any kind, sugary drinks and the like. Daily hydration, drinking water in small sips but constantly, is one of the things that should not be underestimated if you suffer from this disease. - Move more .
Physical activity also helps people with diabetes tremendously. It can be daily (walking), or have three weekly training sessions, like the normal weight room in the gym. Physical activity in fact helps to increase insulin sensitivity. - Educate your palate: taste buds regenerate within ten days, two weeks, did you know?
This is something that can be used to our advantage, as with each regeneration new taste information can be given to the brain. What does this mean in practical terms? That if we learn to reduce the sweet taste, we can change our taste in about two weeks: for example it is good to try to sip bitter coffee, and so tea and herbal teas. Do without sweeteners, in order to educate yourself to a less sweet taste in the mouth. This little gesture will even improve our insulin sensitivity!
