4 good reasons to choose the right diet with your doctor

According to a study conducted by Dr. William S. Yancy Jr. of Durham VA Medical Center in North Carolina, United States , there are reasons for choosing to communicate to your GP your will to lose weight (and decide on a diet with him) better than doing it on your own. Reading the study, I identified four of them!

WHY CHOOSE THE DIET TO DO WITH YOUR DOCTOR AND NOT YOUR OWN HEAD
1) Because in terms of weight loss,
the diet chosen with your doctor was as effective as the one chosen alone in the long term and even superior (even if slightly )
2) Because in terms of motivation , it makes us feel more responsible for the choice: agreeing with someone external to us, an authoritative figure like the doctor, the diet to be done means making a commitment not only with ourselves and therefore respecting more the food plan.
3) Because the doctor knows our health problems, and automatically knows which diets are to be avoided
4) Because we will hardly abandon it:having a timely response with a person encourages us not to give up, especially if this person knows that weight loss is not linear, but can suffer setbacks, and how to intervene in this case.

Finally, last but not least : because with your doctor you are more likely to set achievable goals, based on your physical conformation and your medical history.
Okay, but how to do it? Your doctor can instruct a nutritionist or dietician based on your health history and target weight goals. Therefore, going to the general practitioner allows you to get a prescription for a diet that professionals can then take care of. Otherwise, they may recommend a dietician directly. Finally, there are many family doctors who propose weight loss diets to patients following guidelineswhich concern a personalized assessment based on your characteristics and a healthy diet and exercise plan. In some cases it is finally possible to do a genetic test to obtain a truly tailor-made diet, thanks to a sample of one’s saliva.
